This is the quick path when a client sends a quote or contract as a PDF and you need to edit the wording and send it back, or when you want to lift a few paragraphs of a quote from a research paper or report into your own document. Dragging text off the screen often pastes broken line by line; a DOCX gives you flowing paragraphs you can edit straight away.
The key choice is 'merge into paragraphs' versus 'keep line breaks'. For ordinary running text — contracts, letters, report bodies — the PDF only broke lines to fit the page width, so 'merge' lets the sentences re-flow naturally when you change the font size in Word. For material where the line position itself carries meaning — poems, lyrics, code, address lists — 'keep line breaks' is the right call.
A PDF is a fixed layout with glyphs pinned to coordinates, while a Word (DOCX) file re-flows text, so two-column pages, running headers, footers and page numbers can land mixed into the body during conversion. Just delete those stray lines afterward. Since the PDF is processed inside your browser and never uploaded, even an internal contract that must not leave the company is safe to convert.

The tool focuses on the text content and paragraph flow, not the glyph styling (font, size, color, weight). So the result comes out as a plain document in Word's default font. It's faster to apply the formatting you want once in Word afterward. If you truly need to keep the original fonts, margins and stamps intact, it's more accurate to leave the PDF as-is and edit just those parts with a PDF editing tool instead of converting.
